A Personal
Story - And a Challenge
Years ago I
heard Pastor Jeff Adams of Kansas City Baptist Temple tell how he
read through the Bible every 30 days for three years. He would never
tell me how long it took him. He would only say, "Not nearly as
long as you think." Not so many years ago, I realized that it
had been a while since I read through the Bible. I had done in depth
studies but had not read through the Bible from beginning to end in
some time. This time I decided to read through a couple of times in
one year instead of just once. I found myself enjoying reading so
much that I finished reading through the Bible in TWO MONTHS! I had
wondered what it would be like to read through in 30 days as Jeff
had done and I decided that once in my lifetime I was going to do
this. I set May of 2007 as the month to try and in that month, I
read through the Bible in thirty days.
Here is what I
discovered. I can read through the Bible in 30 days by reading 2 1/2
hours per day. It doesn't take much TV viewing or magazine and
newspaper reading to take up that much time. Why not read the Bible
instead? By reading long passages (about 30 pages a day) I caught
more of the flavor of the Bible. I felt I had a better since of the
flow of the Bible and how it is interconnected. I also felt I got
more of the flavor of God's Word in my own life.
People who
heard what I was attempting kept saying, "You can't possibly be
getting anything out of it, ripping through the Bible that
way!" The truth is, I got more out of my Bible reading than I
ever have before.
What about
you? Why not, ONCE IN YOUR LIFETIME try to read through the
Bible in 30, 60 or 90 days? You won't be sorry you tried. The
reading schedules linked to the left are computer generated. Give it
a try - and let me know what you think.
